Irrisept: A Novel Approach to Infection Prevention in GU Prosthetics
Moderators: Gregory Broderick and Laurence Levine
Speakers: Edward Karpman, Gerard Henry, Peter Tsambarlis and Carolyn Twomey
Men with medically refractory erectile dysfunction have sought treatment with inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) implantation since the early 1970’s. Improved devices and surgical techniques have resulted in improved patient outcomes and satisfaction. Despite these medical innovations, penile prosthesis infections (PPI) continue to occur resulting in devastating patient outcomes. PPI has been reported in 1-3% of index implant procedures and as high as 7-18% of traditional revision surgeries. Several recent advances in DNA sequencing has changed clinical understanding of the pathogens involved in GU implant infections.
This session will address a novel approach to infection prevention in GU prosthetics using Irrisept Antimicrobial Lavage. This panel of speakers will address surgical irrigation with Irrisept as a strategy, the role of biofilm in GU prosthetic infections, clinical experience and studies underway, and the scientific data related to Irrisept.
