The ISSM and the SMSNA welcome you to a joint Scientific Meeting this fall in Miami, Florida! We are pleased and honored to return to hosting an in-person meeting, which is the second in-person SMSNA Fall Scientific meeting and the first annual ISSM Scientific Meeting since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic!
We understand that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the new burdens of travel make attending meetings much more challenging than it used to be. We are hopeful that many of you will be able to make the trip to beautiful Miami, Florida to connect with colleagues, old and new, at the pre-eminent meeting for researchers and clinicians dedicated to the advancement of human sexual wellness in all its myriad manifestations.
Our meeting sub-committees have worked hard to secure renowned experts from around the world to speak on sexual dysfunction, epidemiology, surgical management of sexual concerns, gender identity and sexual orientation, psychosexual health, and global health issues as they pertain to sexuality. Our scientific and social program will offer something for everyone, no matter your background!
Our meeting will be hosted at the Loews Miami Beach, a stunning art deco hotel with access to a pristine beach, top-notch restaurants, and all the cultural amenities of the vibrant South Beach neighborhood. We expect our program will keep you enthralled during the day but are also excited about the opportunities this locale offers for good times with like-minded colleagues after hours.
These meetings are famed for their pre-course offerings, which will start on the morning of Thursday, October 27, so be sure to arrive in time to take advantage of first-rate learning opportunities in basic science, female sexual function (in collaboration with the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health), and regional/language-specific programs from our international partners.
The meeting will commence in the afternoon with a welcome, a historical recounting of the ISSM’s history from members who have been a part of it since inception, and the always popular “Humor in Sexual Medicine” session. We encourage members to forward humorous (but not pornographic) material to our longtime Humor in Sexual Medicine Master of Ceremonies Dr. Ira Sharlip.
The meeting content will contain, as always, lectures, debates, and panel discussions by leaders in their respective fields. We have the good fortune to count many renowned experts within the ranks of our regional society and the ISSM itself; leaders from the numerous regional affiliates of ISSM will be in attendance sharing their knowledge and experience with us. We are also honored to be hosting a number of experts from outside the ISSM; we are confident these clinicians and researchers will enrich our meeting while simultaneously seeing for themselves the important work of the ISSM and its members.
The scientific program is an essential element of our meetings but the truly novel and exciting learning often occurs in our abstract sessions. We will feature sessions that cover the gamut including surgery, pharmacotherapy, epidemiology, mental health, hormones, basic science, and issues in gender identify and sexual orientation. Our abstract sessions are always lively and spark spirited but collegial discussion and debate among our members…they are not to be missed!
Evening social events will be occurring almost nightly. Our welcome reception is scheduled to follow the opening ceremony at 6:30 PM Miami time on Thursday evening. On Friday, we will host a young clinician’s mixer from 6-7 PM to be followed by our 5th Annual SMSNA Foundation Dinner, an event to be sure to attend! A networking event for Advanced Practice Providers will occur Saturday evening.
The meeting concludes Sunday morning with Take Home Messages and awards; we hope you will be able to attend this session to catch up on content you might have missed during the meeting itself.
We look forward to joining you in Miami this Fall!
